our roots

Why do this? The ultimate use of knowledge and experience is to undertake an effort that is useful to others.  Doing what you can with what you have for the benefit of others is a great way to use the time given to live on this earth. There are too many opportunities available that allow us to express ourselves and exercise our talents that we shouldn’t hold back with an excuse of being too busy.  It was at the suggestion of a friend that I try making soap…why shouldn’t a chemist do this? Saponification is one of the first reactions studied in Organic chemistry.  So with little knowledge a few bars were made using the hot process.  It turns out that making soap isn’t that hard as people have been doing this for thousands of years with much less knowledge of chemistry than we have now.

The effort of making soap is driven by science but there is a real art to making a product that success in filling a specific need.  A bar made with pumice can certainly help remove serious dirt and grease but it isn’t enough to really clean up nasty caked on schmutz.  Garden and Garage was born to fill that need.  Next came the oatmeal bar for facial cleansing and an overall exfoliating application.  Later, an air freshener was developed to removed serious dog odors from the house and it does wonders in the bathroom too.  A real application of science was the development of a moisturizing cream that became Skin Shield.  This product is an oil in water emulsion with a high content of selected oils and plant essential oils. This fun venture has many products and each product has very specific applications.  Come see what we have that does something specific for you.
